This unique two-volume set takes a fascinating look at cities of the Mediterranean that were organically conceived and built in stone. It also focuses on how Mediterranean architectural ideals survive and continue to play a vital part in today’s architecture, but risk being swept away in a tide of contemporary design and homogenization. The second volume also presents the results of an international competition and debate on the landscape restoration of four stone built sites in Southern Italy – Punta Perotti in Bari; the port of Crontone; the Latomie dei Cappuccini in Siracusa; and the tourist port in Pantelleria.
