جاءت أهمية الرسالة وأسبابها فيما يأتي: 1 – كونها تفتح بابا للبحث والنقد والإضافة، في حقل الدراسات البحثية. 2 – بيان الأسباب الحقيقية للتطرف، وأنها ذات علاقة وطيدة لما ذهب إليه المعتزلة ، وأعلام من الأشاعرة، والمدرسة النجدية 3 – إبراز الفوارق الحقيقية بين ما يدعيه مؤلف كتابي (عارض الجهل)، و(ضوابط تكفير لمعين)، المستهدف بالمقارنة، وغيره من يشاركه الرأي، مع أقوال ابن تيمية وتلميذه ابن القيم. 4 – معالجة الأفكار والآراء المتطرفة، التي تزعم أنها تستند وتستمد قواعدها ، من ابن تيمية. 5 – بيان آراء ابن تيمية على حقيقتها، ومن واقع كتبه، وبان موفه من مسألة الحجة على لناس بالفطرة أم بالرسالة. 6 – كما تنفر الدراسة بنقد الدراستين السابقتين، وما يدور في فلكهم، في صحة ما ذهبوا ليه من تقسيم الدين إلى أصول وفروع، أو المسألة الظاهرة والمسائل الخفية، من حيث اعتبار الجهل عذرا في فروع الدين دون أصوله، وأنه لا يعد عذراً مقبولاً .
